Math Strategy

Today I learned a new strategy to be able to  solve percentage problems. 

Basic facts test

In my basic facts test I did okay because I got 28 out of 40. My goal for next time is to learn Fractions and percentages because I don’t understand it.

 There are 12 boxed of donuts. Each box has 7. How many donuts all together. I used my multiplication to solve my maths problem. 

What I've learn during math is to solve math problems using place value.

This is my Basic Facts test and I think Subtract to 20 and my addition to 20 is the one I did well. My next step is to work on my 1000 my multiplication and division to 2,3,5 and 10.

Fractions

WALT: Find fractions of a quantity

1. Matthew is a huge rugby league fan and has 28 NRL cards. One quarter of them are Melbourne Storm cards. How many of them are Melbourne Storm cards?

STRATEGY: 
28÷4=77×1=7
SOLUTION SENTENCE: 
There are Melbourne Storm cards altogether.

2. In Mark’s class there are 18 children. ⅓ of them are boys. How many boys are in Mark’s class? 

STRATEGY: 
18÷3=6
6x1=6 
SOLUTION SENTENCE:
There are 6 boys in marks class altogether.

3. Luke has 32 first cousins. ¾ of them live in Auckland and the rest of them live in Wellington. How many of Luke’s cousins live in Auckland? 

STRATEGY:
32÷4=8
3x8=24

SOLUTION SENTENCE:
28 of lukes cousins were at Auckland.

This week for addition I got 100 right out of 100 and my time was 3:00.

This week for subtraction I got 100 right out of 100 and my time is 2:30.

My goal is to be fast and accurate and beat my time.

This week for addition I got 100 right out of 100 and my time was 4:05 
This week for subtraction I got 100 right out of 100 and my time was 3:39 
My goal is to be fast and accurate also to try and beat my time.

Maths Strategy

This week the strategy I have learned is place vlaue and compensation. 

Here is one of my equation that I haven't worked out (8x29=). 

Let's use place value to work this stategy out and then we’ll use compensation. 

First you times 8 to a tidy number in the stategy which is 20 then you plus 8 times 9. After that you add them all together and you will get the answer and the answer is 232. Here do it like this.

(8x20=160)+(8x9=72) then add them all together and the answer is 232.  

Next strategy we can use is competsation. 

First you times 8 to a tidy number which is 30. Then take away 8 times 1. When you finish you add them up and the answer is there.

Here like this.

8x30=240 take away 8x1=232

This week for subtraction I got 100 right out of 100 and my time was 5:46.

My goal is to be fast and accurate. I want to have a faster time.

Fraction week 5

In maths time I had already know what is denominator and numerator.

My favourite thing about fraction is putting them in groups from biggest to smallest.

Fraction is a number that is not a whole number.
